Sea Turtle Conservation Talk with Dr. Larry Wood

  • The Kyalami Scuba Club 607 Northlake Blvd Suite A North Palm Beach, FL, 33408 United States (map)

Monday, May 18, 2026 at 6:00 PM The Kyalami Divers Dive Shop
607 Northlake Blvd, North Palm Beach, FL

About the Event

Kyalami Divers is hosting Dr. Larry Wood for a free evening presentation at our newly renovated dive shop in North Palm Beach.

Dr. Wood is the founder of the Florida Hawksbill Project, the first and only long-term research and conservation program focused on hawksbill sea turtles in Florida. He has spent over 30 years working with sea turtles in this state and currently conducts his research and public education work through the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation in Fort Lauderdale.

He will cover the current state of hawksbill turtle conservation in Florida, what we know about the other sea turtle species living in our local waters, and what his team is doing to protect them. You will also have time to ask questions and talk with other divers and conservationists who care about the same reefs you dive every week.

Seating is limited. This event is free but requires an RSVP.

What to Expect

Dr. Wood will walk you through his 30-plus years of work in Florida sea turtle conservation, share the latest findings from the Florida Hawksbill Project, and give you a real look at what protecting a critically endangered species actually involves. After the presentation, he will take questions directly from the audience.

This is also a good chance to meet other people in the local diving and conservation community. Whether you dive with us regularly or this is your first time at the shop, you are welcome here.

About Dr. Larry Wood

Dr. Wood started his sea turtle work in Juno Beach, running nesting beach surveys and helping build a sea turtle rehabilitation facility. In 2004 he launched the Florida Hawksbill Project, which remains the only dedicated long-term hawksbill study in Florida. His work spans published research, conservation symposia, and decades of mentoring students and volunteers. He now works with the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation, which has supported sea turtle conservation programs in Florida and around the world since 1987.

About Our Conservation Partners

The Florida Hawksbill Project and the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation are two of the organizations Kyalami Divers actively supports.
