How the Day Works
8:00 AM — Shop Lecture
The morning starts at the shop with Grace and Colleen Hecker, FAU PhD researcher and sea star wasting disease expert. You will cover camera settings, how to approach marine subjects mindfully without disturbing them, and tips for getting the shot at Blue Heron Bridge specifically.
9:30 AM — One Tank Dive at Blue Heron Bridge
You put it all into practice. Grace will be in the water with you, giving hands-on guidance on composition and exposure control in real conditions. Blue Heron Bridge is one of the best macro dive sites in the country. You will have plenty of subjects.
12:30 PM — Image Review and Post-Processing
Back at the shop, you go through your images with Grace. She walks you through post-processing tips and you share your best shots with Colleen and the broader scientific community. Pizza is on us.
What You Learn
This workshop covers three things most underwater photographers struggle with: composition underwater, exposure control in changing light conditions, and what to do with your images after the dive. You leave with better images, a repeatable process, and feedback from someone who does this professionally.
