I gave the “OK” sign to our new dive guide and I get a violent head shake in the “NO direction”.
He was plummeting to the bottom in a rear end down position and as I swam quickly over to him he produces a
4 pound weight to hand me. As the cloud of reef dust engulfed us he hands me another 4 pound weight and
immediately a big “hey I’m gonna live smile” pops up on his face, I get the “OK” sign and he swims off.
He is 8 pounds lighter and I have the float and am now 8 pounds heavier. So marks Greg Franco’s first
official Scuba Club dive as a dive guide. He has improved a lot since then, now he hands me just 2 pound weights.
Greg and his twin brother were born on January 12, 1989 in Harrisburg, PA. That was the year that
Rainman won best movie (kind of fits), Don’t Worry Be Happy was a hit and Windows 2.11
was released. Greg has a big muscular, good looking, wrestling coach, ladies man twin brother…I guess
they are not identical twins. He attended Susquehanna Township High School and was the Soccer Team
Captain and vehemently states that he was not in the band (we all know otherwise). Greg’s family
tried to sneak out of Harrisburg without him in 2007 but he followed them to Florida to attend Florida
Atlantic University. He is a 3rd year student in Hospitality Management and hopefully with Sam’s
tutoring he will evolve into a kind and caring Hospitality Ambassador for the Scuba Club. Fratboy
Greg is in some sort of fraternity that nobody has ever heard of, Delta something Delta and his
chapter may be the only one in existence (it may just be an excuse too).
You can Facebook Greg but you know what JD says “Facebook is for people with nothing to do”, sorry Greg,
we know that you have “something” to do, I guess. Ernie does not really remember teaching Greg
how to dive but he does remember what nice parents, Vince and Laura Franco are. They had to show
up and tell Ernie that Greg would miss his dives due to a broken collar bone from hanging ten
on his skateboard Dude. Wait that is Steve Mckenna’s line Dude.
All kidding, or at least most kidding aside, Greg has stepped up to the plate to become one of our best
dive guides and he fits in here at the Scuba Club just perfectly. I am not sure that was a compliment
but he can put up with Chip and all of those corny jokes and never grimaces too much. If you need
to be fitted in the perfect BC or Wetsuit or want to try a new piece of dive gear just ask Greg.
We hope to have him around for a long time, and there is no way he is going to graduate in
4 years and then there is graduate school. I guess that we are stuck with him and that is a good thing.
