Ernie’s dive instructor was one of Palm Beach’s crusty ole local “legends”… little did Ernie know that he too would become one of Palm Beach’s “Diving Legends”. When Ernie started working at The Scuba Club, he was so young that his dad had to drop him off on the way to his own office next to Good Sam Hospital. If “Boo” had just known about all of the valuable knowledge that his son was being exposed to here at The Scuba Club! Yes, Ernie’s dad is Dr. Ernie “Boo” Jabour, of the Mississippi Jabours, one of our long time members and favorite mid-day guest. While soaking up knowledge and leading The Benjamin School wrestling team to the state championships (yes that’s right wrestling), Ernie worked at The Scuba Club on weekends, holidays and those busy summer months. After achieving a 1680 on his S.A.T.’s (or so he says), Ernie enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Mechanical Engineering. The staff and customers of The Scuba Club missed the “little brain” on weekends and holidays...seems like summers just were not enough of an Ernie fix. When Georgia Tech finally coughed up a diploma, Ernie spent his summer at an auto racing school in Canada. He turned academic engineering into hands-on “real” engineering and received the coveted “summa cum laude” award in race engineering. The lure of the ocean took over and our prodigal son returned to life at The Scuba Club . After The Benjamin School and Georgia Tech, obtaining his USCG Captain’s License and PADI Scuba Instructor Certificate was a piece of cake (no milk though--he is lactose intolerant).
Ernie and his animal loving girlfriend Angela live in historic Northwood with a few pets...well maybe more than a few. They rival Chip & Kathy for number of pets per square foot of living space. They parent three dogs, two sweet Rotweilers, Damias & Rose, a dog of mixed heritage, Trigger, three indoor cats, Snowball, Smith & Sundy & two outdoor cats, Skinny Minnie & Streak. Ernie doesn't know how many horses Angela has...but he surely will after she reads this!
After diving, Ernie’s true love is fast cars, auto racing, going fast, fast women, formula one racing and did I mention cars and going fast? He can put a radiator in a BMW faster than most people eat lunch. If you are impressed with The Scuba Club web site, (and how could you not be impressed?), let Ernie know how great it is-- that’s his baby. When something breaks at The Scuba Club , Ernie is the man that fixes it…..End of Story!
